“Which POWERbreathe should I buy?” is a popular question, so here is a quick overview of the POWERbreathe Classic, Plus and K-Series. Which POWERbreathe Should I buy? The POWERbreathe Classic and Plus IMT models require you to manually adjust the training load. However, the electronic POWERbreathe K-Series features an electronically controlled resistance valve that will automatically provide the appropriate training load. The Classic and Plus Series POWERbreathe Classic is the original series of POWERbreathe IMT devices. Due to its lower cost, it makes an ideal entry-level series for those wishing to begin breathing training. POWERbreathe Plus has a contemporary, ergonomic design with a 65% improvement in airflow dynamics, making it a more comfortable user experience. Which POWERbreathe Classic or Plus Should I Buy? The POWERbreathe Classic and POWERbreathe Plus each has three models available in order to accommodate everyone, whatever level of fitness or breathing strength. Light Resistance – Entry level for new users and those with breathing problems (e.g. asthma). Medium Resistance – For those who are moderate to very fit. Heavy Resistance – Only for those who have reached the maximum loading on the Medium Resistance. If you need some help in choosing the right resistance level for you, then you might find this blog helpful, Which Resistance Level? And, if you need some guidance on how to use these manually adjustable breathing training devices, then you can find out more in How To Use The Classic And Plus. £59.99 POWERbreathe Plus IMT – Medium Resistance Rated 4.85 out of 5 based on 13 customer ratings Select options £59.99 POWERbreathe Plus IMT – Light Resistance Rated 4.20 out of 5 based on 5 customer ratings Select options £59.99 POWERbreathe Plus IMT – Heavy Resistance Rated 5.00 out of 5 based on 3 customer ratings Select options £39.99 POWERbreathe Classic IMT – Medium Resistance Rated 3.86 out of 5 based on 7 customer ratings Add to basket £39.99 POWERbreathe Classic IMT – Light Resistance Rated 4.56 out of 5 based on 9 customer ratings Add to basket £39.99 POWERbreathe Classic IMT – Heavy Resistance Rated 5.00 out of 5 based on 5 customer ratings Add to basket The K-Series The POWERbreathe K-Series is the world’s first intelligent digital breathing training device. It is the only advanced electronic IMT device with real-time, live feedback. Because it uses auto-optimising Inspiratory Muscle Training technology, it takes the guesswork out of training. Unlike the Classic and Plus series, the electronic K-Series offers advanced, adaptable and personalised respiratory coaching. Which POWERbreathe K-Series Should I Buy? I think that I would benefit from both your inspiratory and expiratory devices. I am a senior, and am a beginner in using these devices. I notice that they should not be used “concurrently”, if I am understanding correctly. What does that mean in terms of how I would combine both forms of training? Does that mean that for a certain period of time, for example, weeks or months, that I should use one approach only, and then, for example, switch to expiratory training? Or, that I could do one approach such as inspiratory on one day, and then expiratory the next day? Thank you for your assistance. Reply
Hello Shirley and thank you for your enquiry. You’re correct when it’s recommended that the two types of training aren’t performed concurrently. This is because the concurrent loading of IMT and EMT cycles on your breathing is very uncomfortable. It is also extremely difficult to train with maximal effort when loading both breathing phases and because of this, IMT and EMT at the same time generate suboptimal improvements in respiratory muscle strength. So it is better to perform the two types of training independently of each other, which you would be doing with an IMT device and an EMT device. Regarding training, you can perform IMT and EMT on the same day but we suggest that you do it at different times throughout the day, with sessions evenly spaced out, rather than immediately after one another. This will give your inspiratory muscle and your expiratory muscles time to recover between training sessions. Reply
I have a brief question. I’m using the heavy resistance Powerbreathe Plus model and I like it very much. I noticed improvement within a few sessions. is there any very clear, reliable research showing the K series Powerbreathe is superior to the model I have for reducing hypertension? I’m perfectly happy to use the mechanical adjustments to increase the resistance and I believe I’ll have success in reducing blood pressure using the model I have. However, I just thought it would be good to double check. Thanks so much! Reply
That’s great to hear Don, thank you for sharing your feedback. Regarding clear evidence that using the POWERbreathe K-Series will provide superior results in relation to lowering high blood pressure, well all we can say is that the research was performed using the K-Series so there is no comparative research using the manually adjustable POWERbreathe Plus. However, there has been a recent small study which used a device that was adapted (which then effectively works in principle similar to the POWERbreathe Plus) that also showed similar results to the Colorado research. I think the most important thing to note is the training protocol they identified for reducing high blood pressure, which you can find out in the blog IMST to Lower Blood Pressure, in the section, POWERbreathe IMST How To Do It. In fact, I’ve explained how to convert the percentages of MIP they were using in the training to the training levels on the POWERbreathe Plus, so this should be particularly helpful to you. Reply
Good evening Is PowerBreathe Plus 2 the same as PowerBreathe Plus or they differ somehow / how ? I would like to buy one for fitness / free diving / swimming Do you also know if it could provide the same benefits as iQORO ( good for acid reflux ) ? Many thanks Reply
Hello Claudio and thank you for your enquiry. Regarding the use of inspiratory muscle training for acid reflux, I can point in the direction of a research paper that found IMT decreased heartburn and regurgitation scores and “improved esophagogastric junction pressure, reduced gastroesophageal reflux proximal progression, and reduced gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms.” In regard to the Plus models, I’m afraid I’m uncertain as to what you mean here, as we only have one Plus series. I’m wondering if you mean the Classic series (which was developed first) and then the Plus (which was developed later from subsequent research and development). The precision calibrated spring is the same in the light resistance Classic model, as it is the light resistance Plus model. The precision calibrated spring is the same in the medium resistance Classic model as it is in the medium resistance Plus model (and ditto for the heavy resistance Classic and Plus). The Plus is made from a different material, has a better design to allow more airflow, and as it was developed later than the Classic, has a higher price. So it may be that you just decide on your budget: £29.99 for a Classic or £49.99 for a Plus. Next, is which model to choose from. If you’re already quite fit (and it sounds as though you are), we would suggest the Medium Resistance model (in the Classic or Plus), with one proviso…. Because you have a medical condition we always recommend you speak to your GP first before trying any new form of exercise. Hope that helps Claudio.
